The 30-day repost rule: how to get more from your best videos

The short version

The 30-day repost rule: when a post is a clear winner, repost it after 30 days with a fresh thumbnail headline and caption. Then look at the data and keep going until it stops working. Most of the people who see a repost are seeing it for the first time.

I’ve been teaching my 30-day repost system for years, and it’s even easier to do today with AI tools that automate posting and quickly tweak captions and thumbnails. Non-social founders and CEOs worry that “people will be annoyed to see the same thing twice.” But most of the people who see a repost are seeing it for the first time.

What is the 30-day repost rule?

When a post is a clear winner (way more views, saves, and shares than the rest of your content), repost it after 30 days with a fresh thumbnail headline and caption. Then look at the data. If it works again, repeat it, and keep doing it until it stops working. If it doesn’t, move on.

While you’re at it, reshoot the video with small changes, like a different outfit or a few new words in the script, and post that one too.

How do you repost a video, step by step?

  1. Find your winners. Open your insights and look at what most of your posts get. That’s your normal, and it’s relative to your account. If eight of your posts got 1,000 views and two got 6,000, you have two winners. Look at shares and follows too, not just views, because a post people shared is the one worth posting again. Start with the best one.
  2. Tweak the thumbnail text or on-screen hook, and the caption. Change them as little as possible, just enough that they’re not identical. One member of my community, a real estate agent who posts videos about New York City history, changed her thumbnail from “Can you guess what street this is?” to “Did you know that Park Avenue used to be an actual park?”
  3. Do it again every 30 days until it stops performing, for all of your above-average posts.

So go look at your page right now. You know which video did better than everything else. Post it again!

Does reposting actually work?

On its Oct 21, 2026 earnings call, Meta said almost 45% of recommended Reels are now less than one day old, up more than 11 points from the last quarter. Posting steadily matters, and it’s a big reason reposting works. To Instagram, a repost is a new post.

Here are two results from people using this system:

  • A repost reached almost entirely new people. This system is part of the playbook I used to grow social for an estate planning company I invested in and advise (I also ran its social and growth for several months this year). The analytics on a recent repost show that 98% of viewers were non-followers. That tracks, because the account has about 17K followers on Instagram and the video has nearly 200,000 views.
  • A member’s older video got a second life. The member above reposted a video after she learned this strategy in my membership. It had already done well, and the repost brought in another 270,000 views and 400 new followers in 48 hours.

Forward this to your boss if they are a repost doubter.

Questions I get about this
Will people be annoyed to see the same post twice?
Most of the people who see a repost are seeing it for the first time. On a recent repost I tracked, 98% of viewers were non-followers.
How do I know which posts are winners?
Look at what most of your posts get in your insights. That’s your normal. A winner has way more views, saves, and shares than the rest, and shares and follows matter as much as views.
How long should I wait before reposting?
Repost a clear winner after 30 days, then repeat every 30 days until it stops performing.
What should I change when I repost?
Change the thumbnail text or on-screen hook and the caption, as little as possible, just enough that they’re not identical.
The membership

This is what I teach my members.

A membership for the owner doing social themselves, the marketer owning social as one of several jobs, and the social pro who wants to be an AI expert. AI tools I’ve built for you, a live call with me every month, and a private community.
